racism act 5
In this act there is more racism towards Othello throughout most of the scene two. Emilia it very mad at Othello when she find out that he killed his own wife for something that she didn’t even do. Emilia calls Othello a blacker devil and she refers to Desdemona as an angel. I think that Emilia is calling Othello one of the worst black people alive. A devil. She basically doesn’t even want to be looking at Othello and wishes she wasn’t in this position. It’s probably going through her head that if Desdemona's dad Brabantio wouldn’t of let his daughter Desdemona get married to Othello the Moor then Desdemona wouldn’t be dead and Emilia wouldn’t be in this situation where her own husband set up her best friend’s death. When Emilia sees that Othello draws his sword she says she’s not afraid of the sword Othello has drawn and shouts the Moor killed my mistress! She’s saying even though he is the Moor she isn’t afraid of him because she’s so mad at Othello. Emilia also calls Othello the dull Moor which she is actually calling Othello a stupid black person because she gave the handkerchief to Iago who gave it to Cassio, Desdemona didn’t give it to Cassio and this is why Emilia thinks Othello is stupid. I hope that no one is just jumping to the conclusion that Othello has to be blamed because he is black even though some people who are really racist might have said that. But Othello killed his own wife and he made the mistake himself because he believed stupid rumors that weren’t true.
